Our Presenters

Pam Chin

I have been teaching fitness off and on for over 40 years. I’m a certified fitness, yoga, meditation and QiGong instructor.  My degree in physiology lead me to my interest in geriatric and 50 plus fitness. My passion is to teach classes that help people age well and remain physically active. Over the years I have taught classes at Vic Tanny’s, Pinnsoneault’s, Olympus, YMCA, Ironworks. I currently teach at the Strangway Center and have been there for the past 9 years.

Amanda Grant

Amanda began her fitness journey after graduating from Ryerson University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Growing up as a dancer allowed her to become intrigued by the human body and her passion for fitness grew. In 2007, she was named the first Zumba Education Specialist in Canada and travelled as far as Nicaragua training fitness professionals how to become Zumba Instructors. She has appeared in various Zumba DVDs and has presented at various conferences including can-fit-pro, World Spinning Conference and the Zumba Convention. Amanda decided to take a break from Zumba in 2015 when she worked with GoodLife Fitness as a General Manager. She then discovered STRONG by Zumba which ignited her passion for group fitness. Having the experience educating fitness professionals she quickly moved into the role as Master Trainer and is currently travelling across Canada educating fitness professionals on how to become successful STRONG by Zumba Instructors. Her focus on technique and powerful execution has allowed her students to understand the opportunities they have with the program. Amanda is also a mother to her 12-year-old son, Group Fitness Coordinator at Women’s Fitness Clubs and an Event Coordinator for Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre.

Charlene Mahon

Charlene Mahon’s experiences on the front line of mental health intervention have provided her with incredible opportunities to reach out to those whose intense psychological pain have brought them to the lowest point of their lives. Fueled by a passion that “no one goes down on my watch”, she pivoted into the academic world of research and instruction, to proactively prepare the next generation. Her goal as a professor at Lambton College is to build the mental muscle of students to face potential challenges, push past any setbacks, and keep moving forward on their journey through adulthood.
Charlene holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from York University and has worked in various psychiatric hospitals, for the Canadian Mental Health Association, as well as in private practice. She has been an instructor on both sides of the border at both the university and college levels.

Amber Bowman

It was announced early January 2018 that Amber Bowman became the winner of the Dr OZ trainer of the year contest. She represents more than herself. The other firefighters, emergency service, women and Canada!
Amber is a proud graduate of The Ohio State University (GO BUCKS!) where she achieved a degree in Exercise Science. While attending Ohio State, she played on the Women’s Ice hockey Team. Amber finished her career as a two time Captain, third all-time points leader for Ohio State defence, a Four-time Academic All-Big Ten and a Four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. Amber has retired her elite playing hockey career in the CWHL {Toronto Furies} but continues to Play Sr. AA with the Aurora Panthers.

Amber is currently a Firefighter for Central York Fire Department of Newmarket and Aurora, Canada.

In 2011, Amber started competing in Fire Combat Challenges and became the first rookie to ever be victorious on the World stage. She continues to excel, conquering the Firefit all-time female individual fastest time of 1:54, making her the first female to break the 2-minute barrier. In 2017, Amber became the most victorious competitor in Combat history achieving a total of 22 World Championship Titles in just 7 years.

Fit by Fire was founded in 2013 as a sponsorship program when Amber began offering her own unique brand of training workouts. The funds she generated allowed her to compete in the Firefighter Combat Challenges around the World.

Today, Fit by Fire has helped sponsor a total of 9 other females to compete in their sport, attend a post-secondary class or even start a new business!
FBF is more than fitness. It’s about building a fit, healthy and empowered TRIBE around the world, where every day is a new opportunity to help others discover and conquer their BIG dreams!
At the 2015 World FireFit Championships Amber BROKE the Women’s World Record with a sub-two minute performance! She continues to break barriers both athletically and professionally.

Amber is giving back to the sport she loves and has created an exclusive Firefighter Racing program for the 2018 season.
